Now back in Hong Kong, I am working at what has, so far, been an excellent internship with Colliers International. As one may expect, working and studying in... presumably any foreign land, are two completely different animals! Since I have started working, the thought of actually being able to live here, or in any other country, for an extended amount of time seems incredibly more plausible and possible.
Yesterday Megan, Sara, Lindsay, and I all had the great fun of moving all of our things, for the second time this month, from the North-East side of Kowloon to the South-West side of Hong Kong Island... it was tougher this time since Alison wasn’t here to help out :( Fortunately, today(Tuesday 19-Jun) is a public holiday, so we didn’t have to worry quite as much about waking up early for work after settling in. We all were fortunate enough to get single rooms, the catch is that they are about the size of a single jail cell (not that I would know.) The silver lining here is that the air conditioning is pre-paid, and the rooms have a view of the South China Sea. I recently discovered, via some rooftop exploring, a secret spot (on the roof) that is probably one of [if not] the highest point around... and the panoramic view up there is AWESOME. I will take a 360 video when I get around to it and post it in the Videos section.
Today most Hong Konger’s were off of work to attend various Dragon Boat Races around Hong Kong. The most well-known location (I think) was Stanley (South-West side of Hong Kong Island,) which is where we decided to go to watch a few of these races (see pictures and videos.) The sun was not in short supply, which has been a rarity as of late, and made the experience more fun (than rain) but very HOT! We spent the rest of the day wandering around the island trying to find the best route from Hong Kong University (which is where we now reside) to our respective places of employment.
Ah, some more new [bad] news as well: Mike, the owner/skipper/gentleman with whom I have been sailing, had an unfortunate incident a few weeks ago that involved capsizing and resulted in a snapped mast! Bummer! Of course the major bummer is for Mike, who now needs a new mast that won’t be here until the end of July.
Until there is more to report, have a look at some pictures and movies...
